We make the city

Thanks to Mekky, hereby a small impression of the last day of the festival:
Sunday the 23rd of june during We Make The City was entirely dedicated to the new Market. The new Market is a place where local producers will have a  chance to bring their products to the market in the city. But how can we go to a system where markets will be, again, a connecting place for subregions with the city?
This was the main question on this day. More than 100 people that are involved or interested in (the role of) markets discussed different aspects of the new Market during the round-table discussions. SFYN was also asked to highlight the topics related to the new Market that we find important to discuss on this day. Therefore, Marrit and Sem hosted two round-table disussions: Marrit  discussed with a group of people the possibilities for young entrepreneurs in markets and Sem discussed the role of urban farming for local production.
Although it was planned to present all the recommendations from the different table groups at the end of the day, due to the lack of time this was not possible anymore. The next steps now include a manifest, based on the recommendations, fort he municipality of Amsterdam. This manifest should provide a base to build a plan fort he realisation of the new Market.

Wednesday the 10th of July SFYN will be part of ‘Eat to Meat – Summer BBQ’, where we take care of a quiz about Syrian/Dutch cuisuine and sustainability. You don’t want to miss this!
Eat to Meet is a dinner where (new) Amsterdammers can meet each other. The last couple of years Amsterdam has welcomed many new residents.  This time we focus on sustainable food. Expect a dinner with delicious food from the BBQ, live music, fun quizzes and sustainable food initiatives. By the end of the evening you can hopefully leave with lots of new connections and a full belly.

Batoni Khinkali is run by musicians and enthousiasts who want to share the Georgian hospitality with Amsterdam. They are especially famous for their khinkali, a variety of stuffed dumplings. Georgian botanical folklore says that aubergine is a symbol of strength, while walnuts stand for health and pomegranates bring love. These ingredients are crucial in Georgian cuisine.
Batoni Khinkali also serves Georgian wine, that’s still produced in a very specific traditional way.
Plenty of veggie and vegan options available!
