In August we are going on holiday or taking some rest from all our fine efforts, so we are having a small summer break. In September we are back on track with new and exciting things to come! Such as our Introduction day in September where we will show our plans and do something fun.
To survive the summer in Amsterdam we’ve made a small list of tasty events and places to go! Scroll down to read!
We had two amazing events in July. Below a full report of both. Enjoy!
Eat to Meet
On the 10th of July we were invited to Pakhuis de Zwijger to participate in their diner: Eat to Meet. A dinner where (new) Amsterdammers and locals meet each other and share a meal.
This time they focused on sustainable food and that’s why they invited us to do a small quiz. Jascha from the board of amsterdam together with his friend Shawed a Syrian refugee, made it into a super fun quiz about Dutch and Arabic food culture and some interesting sustainability questions.
The dinner was delicious and the live music, played by the Orchestre Partout band was amazing. The Orchestre consists out of (former) refugees and Dutch people. The band plays world music and sings in Farsi, French, Uygur, Arabic, Urdu, Birmese, and Lingala.
By the end of the evening we left with lots of new connections and a full belly.

Tasty Events | Places
Looking for refreshment? Go to IJssalon Ludo en Hedo (Van Hallstraat). Here you can discover very special ice-creams with interesting flavours. Divided into the groups: timeless, curious, gentle and eccentric. Don’t be surprised if you find ice-cream with potato, peanuts, chili and onion flavour here!
Not going on holiday but still want to taste foreign food, Amsterdam is the right place to be! Go to Sjefietshe (Van Ostadestraat) for example, where Peruvian-Amsterdam ceviches are prepared. Close your eyes, and away you are!
You prefer an Island? Go to Paaseiland (Het Stenen Hoofd) what is known as the best spot to go during a hot day. This place serves comfy food from the Pacific. Good food and waterfront views, do I need to say more?
The Kwaku Summer Festival (13th of July-4th of August, Nelson Mandelapark) is all about culture, music, dance and (not unimportant) food and drinks. This festival started as a soccer tournament, has now grown into a cultural festival.
Want to experience some gastronomic pleasures? Go to Haarlem Culinair (1,2,3,4th of August, Grote Markt Haarlem). This event will give you the opportunity to discover multiple culinary delights of different restaurants surrounded by the beautiful city of Haarlem.
Enjoy the summer!!
All the best,
